Niki Lauda was born in Vienna, Austria, on February 22, 1949. He was always interested in cars and racing. Car racing is an expensive sport, but Niki came from a rich family. He became a professional racing driver in 1971 and dreamt of being a Formula One driver. One day Niki met Luca Montezemolo from Ferrari. Montezemolo thought Lauda was a good driver and asked him to race for Ferrari. Niki won his first race for Ferrari in 1974, and a year later, he won the Formula One World Championship. However, Niki Lauda is most famous for losing the Championship in 1976.Niki began the German race in front everyone. After a short time his car suddenly went off the road. It was on fire. Three drivers stopped and helped get Niki out of his car. He had very bad burns all over his body, and he was very ill. The doctors at the hospital said,"We're afraid he's dying." However, after some days Niki opened his eyes and said,"I want to go back and finish the Championship!" Six weeks later Niki was back. He was in front of other drivers in the earlier races and he knew he could win the championship. The last race was in Japan. On the day of the race there was a lot of rain and Niki could not see the road in front of him.He thought it was very dangerous to drive that day, so he left the race. In the end he lost the championship. Niki won the Championship in 1977. In 1979 he stopped racing but went back for a short time in the 1980s and won the 1984 World Championship. People remember Niki Lauda today because he survived a bad accident and went back soon after to race again. To my mind, he showed great perseverance in the face of difficulty. He did not gave up at those times. Despite the fact that his body burnt like a turkey on Thanksgiving day, he returned to the race. It seems that this man is dedicated to his work. However, the real point is he loves cars and races. I know what it is like. You feel as if you are thunder. You just drive your car through the air, and adrenaline increases in your bloodstream. Believe it or not, this is something different. You can never feel like this!
