This unbelievebleevent happened in 1968 Mexico Summer Olympic Games. In the running race black American Tommie Smith came In the 1st place, another one- John Carlos came 3rd, white Australian Peter Norman came 2nd. While waiting prizing ceremony Carlos came near Norman and asked:
-Do you believe human rights?
-Yes, I believe
-Do you believe God?
-With all my heart
After that 2 black American said to Peter about protest which they had thought, and Peter accepted it without hesitation:
-I'll support you, tell me what to do!
After several minutes, they would protest to racism, poverty. However there was no plan.It came from Peter Norman. As the American flag rose and the Star-Spangled Banner played, the 2 black closed their eyes, bowed their heads, and began their protest.Smith raised his right,black-glove-covered in the air to represent black power in America while Carlos' left, black-covered fist represented unity in Black America.Together they formed an arch of unity and power. The black scarf around Smith's neck stood for black pride and their black socks and no shoes represented black poverty in racist America.Peter Norman participated in the protest by wearing an OPHR badge. This even effected so that even Olympic games were sub-plan. Their action were met with such outrage that they were suspended from their national team and banned from the Olympic Village, the athletes' home during the games. Peter was forbidden to participate in contests in Australia. As a result they lived poorly, but after that they were friend and always kept in touch till Peter's death by heart attack at the age of 64. That is the photo which shows Carlos and Tommie carry Norman's coffin. However, Peter also punished Australian government, because till today any Austarlian could renew his record in Olympic Games.
In my opinion, they are really hero, specially white Peter Norman. Many years 2 black athlets were emphasized, only after Peter's death his name came to the first row.İt is real bravery to risk to lose all your thing to achieve your aim, to make a sacrifice to thing which you dedicated yourself. They risked poverty, death, insult. They knew that their dream would came true one day, black people would not be discriminated. What about Peter? He was not black, he did not have any dream like Tommie and Carlos. He did everything which he considered is true. He supported one group to cathch their dream, as a result he lived worse life than these 2 blacks.
YEs Peter's action is really worth appreciating. It it not easy to agree to lose everything for achieving your aim. Also, Peter was not required to do it. he did it for supporting the truth. In this situation, we should only applaud him
Novruz, with little letters it is also short, and I have skipped some part of it, i like reading smth with big, when i see yours with little ones i get bored to read it
Not all winners would do as Peter did.He could save his name and go on with the Olympic games. However he helped his friends and showed his love to them
