CHRISTINE CHUBBUCK
Manner of death: Suicide on live TV Christine Chubbuck from Florida
was the host of a well regarded program.
Christine was supposed to make reports on fights, murders, burglaries, rapes or
whatever. The direction of this TV channel always demanded shocking reportage
full of blood. They justified their wishes saying that all the people are
murderers and sadists deep inside.
On the 15th of July, in 1974 at the eighth minute of the
broadcast Christine suddenly interrupted her speech and said
"In keeping with Channel 40’s policy of bringing you the latest blood
and guts in living colour, you are going to see another one first - an
attempted suicide”.
Taking a revolver out from under her desk, she placed it behind her left
ear and pulled the trigger (she learned this was the most effective way to
commit suicide from the police while researching a project for her show). Some
viewers called 911 while others called the station to see if it was real. Camerawoman
Jean Reed later stated that she didn’t believe it to be true until she saw
Christine’s body twitching on the floor.
GRIGORI RASPUTIN
Manner of death: Drowning after being poisoned, shot, and bludgeoned
Grigori Rasputin, was a peasant and mystic healer who found favor with
the royal court of Russia by providing relief to Crown Prince Aleksey, a
hemophiliac and heir to the throne. Wielding much influence on the royal court,
untidy, vulgar, and amazingly buoyant Rasputin made many political enemies. They
thought he had to die; much easier said than done. The conspirators first tried
poison, enough poison to kill a man three times his size, but he seemed
unaffected. Next they turned up behind him and shot him in the head. This
should have done it, but no. Rasputin tried to run away, but the would-be assassins
chased him, shooting him three times in the process. The gunshots slowed him down
enough to let his followers to catch-up. Afterwards they proceeded to bludgeon
him before throwing him in the icy cold river (Russian winter). An autopsy
performed on his body showed that the cause of death was drowning.
Death is
inevitable. Nobody can avoid it. However, people die in different ways. We are
used to usual causes for death, such as old age, sickness or some accident. However,
death may be very inventive. It may come in a way that may shock and surprise us.
I am sure, history has enough cases of bizarre deaths in store. These were just a grain of them. Doubtless,
it’s impossible to stay indifferent to death of Christine. To tell the truth,
most of all I was astonished about the way she died. It’s something
unimaginable. I mean, she may have been not in her right mind. I won’t be
surprised if she had some mental disease. Okey, at least, deep depression.
Rasputin’s
case is a bit funny. He was a kind of magician, I suppose. Otherwise, it’s difficult
for me to understand the reason for his not dying at their first attempt. Any
other man, I mean a normal one, will kick the bucket at once. So, there should
have been something of evil spirits, I guess.
