Male Chauvinism

Chauvinism, in its original and primary meaning, is an exaggerated, bellicose patriotism and belief in national superiority and glory. Chauvinism is a characteristic which reflects ignorance. The term dates back to the life story of an 18th-century French soldier named Nicolas Chauvin who was reputed to have fought as a military partisan despite suffering a series of hard injuries. In contemporary world this term is nearly always used to refer to Male Chauvinism ( men who beleive that men as a group are inherently superior to women ). "Male Chauvinism" term was coined by feminists during the mid-20th century. Since males in our society have somehow decided that they are the superior ones that are often proud to be chauvinistic.
Actually, chauvinism is deep rooted in all males. Some have it more while others have it to a lesser extent. Frankly, I had not witnessed male chauvinism till I was secure in my house. I had seen my father prepare morning coffee for my mother at times when she overslept. My father knew more about our medication and vaccinations than my mother. My father would not hesitate in going for shopping with my mother or cooking when she was too tired. In fact, I can easily say that he can make the best choices of most of everything in our family. But as I grew up and went out for studies, I came across a variety of people who could be easily categorized as being highly male chauvinistic. These were my classmates and grown ups, who did not want a working wife because according to them women were meant to look after kids and family. Nonetheless, they wanted a post graduate girl to marry. I could never and still can't understand the irony of this. Why would a guy want to make someone sacrifice her career for an orthodox bent of mind? I think if an adoloscent discourses in this direction it means that all these notions at such a young age are coming from his family, from what he observes at home.
Year be year I have realized how paradoxical our norms and principles are. Before marriage parents teach their daughters that men and women are equal. There is no difference in their rights. But as soon as a female is married, her own parents tell her to be the sacrificing, the submissive, the non-expecting, the giving kind of a wife and just trying to prove that men are superior to women. In fact, so strong is the impact of this bent of thinking that I’m sure I would also be giving the same advice to my daughter ( if i have daughter :) ) once she is about to get married. After all, all parents want their daughters to have a trouble free married life.
But why is our society affected by male chauvinism the most? I don’t know the right answer to this but I personally feel that this characteristic creeps into every muslim male right from his birth. I think we ourselves are to be blamed for polluting the minds of males and making them believe that they are the boss.

So,So...I have seen that the whole commentators are women that's why I decided to join your ideas somehow :D... so My opinion is that : Woman should have every honorable motive to exertion which is enjoyed by man, to the full extent of her capacities and endowments. The case is too plain for argument. Nature has given woman the same powers, and subjected her to the same earth, breathes the same air, subsists on the same food, physical, moral, mental and spiritual. She has, therefore, an equal right with man, in all efforts to obtain and maintain a perfect existence. Woman should have justice as well as praise, and if she is to dispense with either, she can better afford to part with the latter than the former. Thanks for sharing smile

They do it because they can. We women have to understand that we are the ones giving men the right.
Chauvinism isn't anything genetic. It is what we see around us, so if a male sees such kind of behaviour in his normal everyday family life, he will bring that out in the streets.
I'm not saying it is possible to completely prevent because our world is full of close-minded people, however, we must always stand by our rights and demand the respect we deserve smile

Very actual topic)Unfortunately, male chauvinism more or less presents in many families. It is like an integral part of our mentality. It will take a lot of time to eradicate this chauvinism from our society.
