LEARN FROM MISTAKES

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. "Well,” trainer said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Thomas Edison tried two thousand different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked satisfactorily, his assistant complained, "All our work is in vain. We have learned nothing.”

Edison replied very confidently, "Oh, we have come a long way and we have learned a lot. We know that there are two thousand elements which we cannot use to make a good light bulb.”

Thank you for sharing! Interesting one! happy
However, this kind of stories cannot impress me at all, I`m just sort of laughing at how people dig deep in every little detail, which we come across in life, just to make people think about what they are doing, and therefore, I don`t think there`s a need to think about making stories like this. They don`t make sense to me. I don`t know, perhaps, it sounds weird, but that`s what I think. biggrin

We all always claim that obstacles and failures only make us stronger and must inspire us on overcoming it. If it is really so, why do all people give up most of the times? I think that physiologically it's very hard to accept the failure or a huge obstacle..only very strong people are able to stand and proceed fighting for the things they want )
Very interesting story ) I think we all do something in a particular way just because we believe it to be so and we don't even try to change a tiny thing smile Thank you

Very inspirational post...."Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."
